And, just like that, the January transfer window is open with Rangers poised to do business.
Hogmanay revellers will be waking up with sore heads but football managers and recruitment departments will have their thinking caps on as they try to get deals done across the month.
Gers fans could do with some good news after recent results saw the gap at the top of the Premiership widen even further.
Philippe Clement needs reinforcements, especially at the back with injuries to key players in defence which have hamstrung the team in recent games.
A number of names have already been linked, with some current Ibrox stars are likely to move on.

Rangers’ centre-back search
Centre-back is probably the most pressing concern with John Souttar, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Leon Balogun all out injured currently.
One player who mentioned was FAR Rabat’s Hatim Essaouabi, a Moroccan centre-back who is a former teammate of Hamza Igamane, but that was reported as being wide of the mark.
No fresh names are being linked currently but expect that to change.
Attacking players on Rangers’ radar
Rangers are being heavily linked with South African striker Iqraam Rayners, who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in his homeland, as they reportedly want to add to their attacking department.
Reports have claimed enquiries have already been made about a £2.4million transfer swoop for the 29-year-old.
The latest twist in that one was that Rayners was dropped for his team’s latest match but their manager Miguel Cardoso claimed it was simply down to their hectic schedule.
Another forward player reportedly on Gers’ radar is Malaysia international winger Arif Aiman Hanapi.
He has been in inspired form and recently ripped apart Kuala Lumpur with a hat-trick in a cup game.
Rangers have reportedly requested a dossier on Isaac Price, a Northern Ireland midfielder who plays for Standard Liege in Belgium.
However, reports in Belgium played down those Rangers links to Price.
While Standard’s manager Ivan Leko appears to be relaxed about Price’s situation.
Romanian midfielder Darius Olaru has long been mentioned in relation to Rangers but the FCSB star is being urged to snub them for interest elsewhere.
One for next season may be Burnley’s Josh Brownhill with Rangers lining up a pre-contract offer.
However, he is said to have offers from Lazio and Fiorentina already with Celtic and a list of English clubs also interested.
Rangers expect January transfer outgoings too
Adam Devine and Alex Lowry both look set to leave Rangers in search of first-team football.
Neither has has a look in after loans away at other Premiership teams last season and Ibrox chiefs have agreed to let them move on from the club.
Ianis Hagi has just worked his way back into the Rangers team and has been impressing since his repreive.
But they could still lose him with a number of clubs interested and Serie A side Genoa said to be “very close”.
Ridvan Yilmaz is being lined up by Trabzonspor, ironically as a replacement for Borna Barisic, according to reports in Turkey.
The left-back has had a stop-start Ibrox spell due to injuries and it could be a chance for the club to cash in and for him to get a fresh start.
While Cyriel Dessers is expected to leave the club after sliding down to third choice centre-forward.
Dessers was reportedly wanted by Saint-Etienne, although when they changed manager their new man did play down the links.
