The January transfer window is always a difficult one to get right and Philippe Clement will be hoping for every new signing to be a hit if Rangers are to kick on from the current momentum being built.

Every area of the squad needs attention, however, as seen against Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur, midfield is still short of options in terms of another box to box creator who can score goals.

Over the weekend, Rangers were linked with Isaac Price again, the Standard Liege youngster having signed from Everton only a year ago when the Ibrox outfit were first credited with an interest in the Northern Ireland international.

Rangers interest in signing Isaac Price clarified

There is no concrete interest, only information being gathered according to a report from Belgium, however, respected Jupiler Pro League journalist Sacha Tovolieri – who broke the Nicolas Raskin transfer – has provided an update.

Responding to a question on X, Tovolieri explained Rangers position in terms of a potential bid for Price:

“No interest from Rangers for Isaac Price.”

When Price left Everton in the summer of 2023, that was the time to sign the goalscoring midfielder in a similar move to when Joe Aribo drove north to cross the border in a cut-price deal.

With his international stock on the rise and a starring role in a respectable league, Rangers might already be priced out.

Do Rangers have money to spend in January?

Clement will have funds to strengthen and, speaking in his time as interim chairman, John Gilligan explained that this isn’t dependent on moving bodies out the door:

“We’re trying to bring stability to the player trading model to try to improve it and I think the manager we’ve got is the man to do that.

“There will be [money for Clement to spend in January]. I think with any manager at any football club, if you can sell and make a profit then it helps with the buying. It doesn’t depend on it but it certainly adds to it and helps with the whole opportunity of improving.

“We keep talking about the player trading model because ideally we want to be able to bring in players and get them to play properly for the team and do well, but hopefully we sell them on and reinvest.”
