Sam Lammers Rangers role could see perfect Cyriel Dessers dovetail

Sam Lammers has been announced as a Rangers player and, if reports are to be believed, Cyriel Dessers might not be far behind him.

After the departures of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, who has just signed for Fenerbahce, a new look attack was always going to be a priority.

For the playmaking and support role, it looks like Sam Lammers is the man, with the Rangers goalscoring responsibility landing on Cyriel Dessers shoulders – but how do they measure up as a pair.

Using @DataMB_ to compare the Serie A pair, an interesting combination is thrown up and you can see why Michael Beale seems keen to line them up together.

Sam Lammers looks like the player who will be tasked with dictating play and used as a counter attack outlet for Rangers whereas Cyriel Dessers, on the other hand, will be more involved in the penalty area and be expected to get on the end of chances.

A picture paints a thousand words.

What the radar also shows is where they need to improve and where signing for Rangers will allow them to develop.

Both should get more goal scoring chances playing for a team at the top of the table rather than ones fighting relegation in a difficult league.

Reportedly costing a combined £8m, give or take – Lammers £3.5m and Dessers £4.4m.

They will also get more touches of the ball in the final third and have the opportunity to bring others into play and create for teammates too.

Combined, I’m not saying they will be Ally McCoist and Mark Hateley, but they should certainly be a better match than Mark Hateley and Duncan Ferguson.

What will be important is that they both hit the ground running, Sam Lammers in particular, because a slow start in a Rangers jersey can see many written off early in their careers.

The previously mentioned McCoist and Hateley being the perfect examples.

Sam Lammers is a good start to the transfer window for Rangers attack, hopefully, he is followed by Cyriel Dessers and they skip out the initial struggles and go straight to forming a partnership that brings goals and, more importantly, silverware.
