Cyriel Dessers is closing in on a move to Rangers after telling Serie B-bound Cremonese he doesn’t want to play Italian second tier football.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, quoted via Goal, Cyriel Dessers has “no intention” of dropping down a level in Italy with a switch to Rangers now “very close”.

The report claims that a Rangers “blitz” on the attacker led to the “proverbial white smoke” in testament to Dessers’ time in Italy, with the ex-Genk striker set to leave only one year after joining.
Rangers fans will certainly have their heads turned by the news this morning, with the Ibrox side reportedly putting together a £4.4m package to bring Cyriel Dessers to Ibrox.
The report claims that Rangers are now “one step away” from completing a deal for the ex-Feyenoord striker, who was the top scorer in last season’s Europa Conference League (9).
Rangers close in on Cyriel Dessers deal
The 28-year-old Belgian-born Nigerian international, 28, has been the subject of much reporting this week with the striker now set to replace the outgoing Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.
Goal are claiming that the transfer “should be finalised” if Rangers can come up with the €5m fee it’ll take to snare the attacker, who netted six times in Serie A for an eventually relegated Cremonese last season.
Cyriel Dessers has also been bummed up in the press by former Rangers striker Marco Negri, who claims the transfer will be a “dream come true” for the attacker.
“I think they can do the deal because, at the end of the day, Cremonese are now in Serie B,” Negri said.
“The guy will want to sign for a club like Rangers. It will be a dream come true for him. He can always give me a phone call if he isn’t sure what to do and I will advise him to sign!”
If the deal goes through, Cyriel Dessers will be the sixth, potentially seventh, signing of the Michael Beale era with at least another three set to follow in the coming weeks.
