Rangers are reportedly “closing in” on Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers as Michael Beale looks set to get his man.

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers are close to striking a £3.5m deal to take 28-year-old Nigerian international striker Cyriel Dessers to Ibrox, with the transfer potentially rising to £4.4m.

Whilst the details of the add-ons aren’t included in the report, it does make mention of earlier demands made by Cremonese, with reports claiming the Italians wanted £7m for the striker.

But with the club relegated from Serie A this season, having splashed out £5.5m on the former Genk player only last summer for him to score six goals in the Italian top flight, Cyriel Dessers reportedly wants to leave.

Rangers appear set to take full advantage with the club now looking likely to complete a deal for the striker, who was top scorer with Feyenoord in last season’s Europa Conference League (9).

Has Rangers boss Michel Beale got his man in Cyriel Dessers?

Whilst the Scottish Sun report claims Rangers have been tracking Cyriel Dessers for weeks, the move comes after a high profile Michael Beale scouting trip to Italy.

Nothing is signed, sealed and delivered just yet, but the Rangers boss told asking journalists that his visit to the continent was on official club business to discuss players.

Joining the dots, it makes us think the Cremonese striker was the subject of the scouting trips and let’s hope Cyriel Dessers was also the Rangers boss’ first choice option.

Speaking earlier in the season, the Ibrox manager claimed around the January window that he had a “specific” striker target in mind but would have to wait until the summer to complete a deal.

“I’d like to bring another No 9 into the building that is different to what we’ve got,” said Michael Beale.

“My eyes are on that and I’ve got my target but he’s probably not available right now. He will be in the summer. I don’t want to give you names because everyone else might start liking him.

“I have my eye on a very specific name for the summer and hopefully we’ll be able to do that.”

Given the fact Cyriel Dessers didn’t have such a high-profile in Rangers circles up until the links appeared, perhaps the Belgian-born forward is exactly the man Michael Beale had in mind.
