Rangers transfer links suggest a summer of intent ahead at Ibrox

There have been plenty of transfer links with Rangers as the summer transfer window approaches.
Steven Gerrard has spoken openly about the need for quality signings at the club to compete with Celtic. Dave King, with the help of supporters, is prepared to give the Gers boss financial backing too.
Whilst some of the names being linked to Rangers are undoubtedly squad signings, others signal a real summer of intent ahead at Ibrox.

Watford forward Andre Gray is the name that really stands out [the Herald]. Whilst it sounds fantastical that Rangers would sign an £18.5m Premier League player, the club appears genuinely interested.

Then there’s Norwich’s Timm Klose [The Sun on Sunday (28/4; page 59] or Manchester United and England youth Axel Tuanzebe. Two players of Premier League quality at the back, allbeit they both played in the Championship this season.

Even the idea that there’s a “possibility” we can retain the services of Ryan Kent is a statement. Kent is reportedly interesting clubs down south to the tune of £12m.
Whilst there has been nothing concrete yet, these are the kinds of quality signings Rangers should be aiming to make. There will be plenty more reports as soon as the window actually opens too.

The early transfer links at Rangers signal a real summer of intent ahead for the club. And so they should.
