Rangers linked Stade Rennais and Mozambique defender Mexer has opted to sign a pre-contract with Bordeaux, his new side has revealed.
The big stopper, 30, was the subject of intense Ibrox speculation after he was pictured with Steven Gerrard. Whilst the Rangers boss said the club “admire” the player, he suggested in a press conference yesterday Mexer wasn’t coming to Ibrox.
Gerrard even said the player looked likely to stay in France. And that’s come to fruition as Mexer signs for Bordeaux after four years at Rennes.

Rangers will be disappointed to miss out on the player, who is rated at £3.6m on Transfermarkt.com. That’s of course only the case if the club really did make a move for him.
But as it has turned out the former Nacional defender and Pedro Caixinha player will be staying on the continent.
Rangers’ attention will now turn elsewhere as we head into what’s gearing up to be a busy transfer window at Ibrox.
The Glasgow club has already secured the pre-contract signings of Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis. There promises to be a few more to come too.
But when it comes to Mexer, did this journalist call what was happening days ago?
