Rangers have had a rollercoaster season in which Philippe Clement nearly created history but for a team that fell apart in more ways than.
When Michael Beale was removed from his duties, it looked like the year was going to be a write off until the new manager came in and revitalised a squad that looked lightyears behind Celtic.
The campaign ended as it started but not every Rangers player was a let down despite some being likely to never pull on the famous shirt again – here are their ratings for the 2023/24 season.

Jack Butland – 9
If it hadn’t been for his costly mistake in the Scottish Cup final, it would have been a perfect 10.
Easily one of Rangers best ever signings given that he arrived on a free transfer, a valuation of £10-15m shows exactly how highly he is rated.
Robby McCrorie – 4
Played once against Dumbarton and was fuming to lose a late goal from a set-piece.
Will surely be on his way out with Liam Kelly heavily tipped to return to Ibrox.
Jon McLaughlin – 0
Started last season as number one but hasn’t made a single appearance this season as his contract ticks down.
Plenty of SPFL clubs will be looking for a new keeper this summer, even if he might be a bit rusty.
James Tavernier – 5
Despite 24 goals and 12 assists, bizarrely, he’s not had a good season.
It’s been a season of moments rather than of consistency.
His performances in the Old Firm derbies typify this with a couple of goals and an assist but culpable in key moments at the other end.
Borna Barisic – 3
Should have been sold long before his contract expired and played most of the season like a player who knew they were leaving.
Ridvan Yilmaz – 6
A mixed bag from the Turkey international.
When he was good, he was very good, however, when he wasn’t, he was injured.
Robbie Fraser – 6
Only made two appearances but, as a lifelong fan, grabbed the chance to impress and prove how much he wants to stay at Rangers.
Dujon Sterling – 10
Consistently excellent in every position which is incredible when you consider he has never really been seen in his best one.
After playing left-back, right-back, defensive midfield, left wing and right wing, he deserves a chance to play a prolonged period of time in his preferred full-back role.

Connor Goldson – 4
There is a strong hint of a decline about Connor Goldson’s season.
The vice-captain doesn’t seem to have fully recovered from the thigh injury that he suffered in 2022 with bad positioning and individual mistakes creeping into his game more frequently.
John Souttar – 6
For a period he was Rangers best defender but needs to start concentrating for the whole 90 minutes because too many lapses cost him this season.
Ben Davies – 5
Played in every Europa League game in a group that Rangers topped and has been solid on his return to the starting XI.
Injured far too often though.
Leon Balogun – 8
The big Nigerian might only have played 18 games, but rarely did he look like he was going to let the side down.
A red card at Parkhead aside, his performances make you wish he was 25 and not 35.
Leon King – 4
Having been transitioning into defensive midfield all season, he did well to cope with the pressure of being thrown in at centre-half recently and some of the stick was unfair.
Needs to go out on loan but it’s clear his future isn’t in the middle of defence.
John Lundstram – 5
Like James Tavernier, he was posted missing when he was needed most, at the sharp end of the season and in Old Firm derbies.
Had a 30 game period where he was arguably Philippe Clement’s best outfield player, however, he failed to deliver when the pressure was on.
Nicolas Raskin – 3
Had a poor start to the season, then had two long term injuries and couldn’t force his way back into the team.
Has been good recently but next year is huge for the 23-year old and make or break for his Rangers career.
Jose Cifuentes – 2
Was surprised that Scotland doesn’t have good weather.
Having been tipped to be a difference maker by Beale, it was a surprise to nobody when he was sent out on loan to Cruzeiro.

Kieran Dowell – 3
Looks like a technically gifted player, he’s just another who can’t stay fit and isn’t what Rangers need.
Ryan Jack – 4
Had his longest period of availability but was used sparingly, would have been a favourite of Philippe Clement, again though, sitting in the stands is no use to any manager.
Cole McKinnon – 6
Proved that he should play before those who don’t particularly care for the club or can’t stay fit.
Only made a few cameo appearances, however, he deserves more game time moving forward.
Mohamed Diomande – 8
Other than a few games when the 22-year old looked off the pace, Diomande has looked every inch of the £4.3m midfielder who Clement can build his team around.
Todd Cantwell – 6
A couple of purple patches a season isn’t enough.
Yes, Beale was playing him in a deeper role earlier in the season, but he is talented enough to still have been causing teams in the SPFL problems.
Another, like Tavernier and Lundstram who, when needed, simply didn’t produce.
Tom Lawrence – 4
The best striker of a ball in Scotland, a skill that is almost redundant due to his legs being gone from missing so much football over the last two seasons.
Should be sold in the summer to free up wages.
Sam Lammers – 2
Playing in arguably the most important position but struggled to impact games.
Missed a series of easy chances before going to the Eredivisie and looking like prime Ronaldo.
Abdallah Sima – 7
His goals to game ratio can’t be faulted, if he had been 50 games he might have made the difference in the league.
He wasn’t and he didn’t.

Rabbi Matondo – 5
His goals and assist ratio per minute is impressive, if he was playing 90 minutes every week.
Another who spends more time in the treatment room than on the pitch.
Scott Wright – 3
Scored his first league goal in over 40 games in May at the end of the season – which says it all.
Ross McCausland – 7
Gets an extra mark for how he has stood up to the pressure of playing in a key position with little support and for it being his first season in senior football.
Will provide a solid back up option moving forward.
Oscar Cortes – 6
He might only have played a few games but he looked a cut above any winger Rangers have had for a long time.
Danilo – 6
The Brazilian has been so unlucky with injuries, two freak accidents that both required surgery.
His goal and assist contribution suggests that, with the right wingers alongside him, he could be a difference maker.
Fabio Silva – 6
Signed to provide cover leading the attack, Silva has spent most of his time on the wing.
In fairness, he was one of only a few who turned up in the Old Firm derbies but his £35m price tag is one that Wolves will never get back unless he improves his finishing.
Cyriel Dessers – 7
With over 20 goals and 8 assists, he has had a good season, he has also missed too many chances – both can be true.
Shouldn’t have been played at the beginning of the season when Danilo was fit.
After Clement arrived, his performances and numbers both improved.
Kemar Roofe – 3
He gets three marks for his goal against Real Betis otherwise it would have been a struggle to give him anything at all.
There are a couple of recurring themes throughout the squad.
One is players being injured too often, the other is players who were signed on big wages not contributing enough.
The manager and NIls Koppen have a big job on their hands this summer and getting better value for money and more key players who are available week in, week out, has to be the priority.
