South American report casts doubts over imminent Rangers transfer move

A report coming out of South America has cast doubts over whether Rangers will complete a transfer move for pre-contract signing and LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes this summer.

Mr Offsider – a South American football account with over 27k followers which has often been at the centre of this transfer saga’s coverage – claims that there is a chance the Ecuadorean World Cup star will remain in Los Angeles until January.

Whilst the account has reiterated claims from Michael Beale that Rangers have agreed a pre-contract with Jose Cifuentes, this is the first time real doubt has been cast over whether or not a deal can be completed this month.

Translated into English, a Tweet from the Mr Offsider Twitter account reads:

“José Cifuentes has already signed a contract with Scottish Rangers. However, it is possible that he will continue at LAFC until January.”

Rangers may have to wait on Jose Cifuentes transfer

According to reports, Rangers will have to pay between £1m and £2m to complete the signing this summer and fans have begun to get used to the idea they will see the player join Michael Beale’s revolution in the coming weeks.

Jose Cifuentes was pictured taking a flight out of LA as the MLS season stopped for a month-long Leagues Cup break and there have been strong hopes a transfer can be concluded in this period of downtime.

These were intensified by comments made by Rangers manager Michael Beale after the 2-1 victory over HSV at Ibrox, where the boss claimed he was “confident enough” a deal will be concluded before the Scottish Premiership kicks off v Killie on August 5th.

Whilst we’re sure Michael Beale has the right to be, these South American claims around the transfer of Jose Cifuentes will raise some doubts in Rangers circles.

Until the scarf is fully raised above the midfielder’s head, and he’s pictured in a Rangers shirt and not an LAFC one, no-one will be taking the summer transfer of Jose Cifuentes for granted.

It’s been a remarkably productive summer to date and should the club get a deal for Cifuentes over the line, the club deserves huge credit with the Ecuador international boasting sizeable pedigree.
