Speculation has been surrounding the status of Rangers move for Jose Cifuentes ever since reports suggested that a deal was all but done.

The 24-year old midfielder will be a real coup for the Light Blues especially if Michael Beale can bring the Ecuadorian in sooner, rather than later.

Who better than the manager to reveal that Rangers will be signing Jose Cifuentes, it’s just a matter of when, in an interview with Sky Sports.

What has the Rangers manager said about Jose Cifuentes?

Asked about the summer’s business and, specifically, if a deal for the Los Angeles FC midfielder was close, he said:

“Yes, it is getting closer again, the logisitics of that one, and work permits and everything else that goes in between it.

“The clubs are still talking, he’s out of contract at the end of the year, we have an agreement for that and obviously we would like to bring it to a close early so that he can join us, if he can, in this window so, those discussions are ongoing.”

There had been some confusion about whether or not Rangers had an agreement in place for Jose Cifuentes or if everything was purely on a verbal basis.

It’s clear that the sticking point is the MLS outfit and either the fee that they are wanting for an immediate transfer or future clauses.

The most important aspect is that Rangers are definitely going to be signing Jose Cifuentes either in this transfer window or the next which is massive given that Leeds, Brighton and Newcastle were linked with £6m moves only last summer.

Ideally, Michael Beale will want a player with the 16-cap Ecuador international’s skillset in as soon as possible.

A number eight who can drive the ball out of midfield and beat a press on their own is always going to be useful, especially against better opposition.
