Proven quality is hard to find in the transfer market nowadays, especially for Rangers who will be shopping with the usual financial constraints.
The imminent takeover by the San Francisco 49ers group won’t have a massive impact on the budget, certainly not initially with other priorities to take care of.

His team of analysts and scouts will be scouting the globe for potential talent, but the marquee signing of the summer is right under their nose.
Rangers are reported to have a £5.5m option to buy clause for Vaclav Cerny with the Clyde Superscoreboard pundits labelling the transfer the proverbial no-brainer.
Rangers urged to sign Vaclav Cerny
Cerny scored a screamer for the Czech Republic on international duty with his goals and assists tally for the season closing in on 30 already for club and country.
That Rangers are in talks to sign Cerny, shouldn’t be a surprise given how good a signing the experienced winger has been.
It’s no wonder that the CSSB panel also think that Rangers should splash the cash, 32 minutes in to the Wednesday 26th of March’s Clyde Superscoreboard podcast:
“I totally agree with that,” Marvin Bartley replied to Simon Donnelly about the prospect of Rangers signing Cerny on a permanent deal.
“I think that it would be a big signing for them and do you know what I liked about him as well? When he kind of had that bit of an argument with the fans, cos it showed that he cared. He wasn’t just coming here on loan and going through the motions.
“‘Ok, I’m not playing well, you’re booing me, I’m just going to walk off’, he gave a little bit back.”
Bartley also touched on how the comparison between Cerny and Adam Idah, who Celtic had to pay £9m for after not agreeing an option to buy price as part of the original loan deal, at 1:11 into the show:
“And this can be the difficulty when you have a good loan player and you want to buy them.
“Adam Idah, you might not get him for that (a similar price to rumoured Cerny fee) as a result of how well he’s done at you. That’s a frustration, isn’t it?
“That’s always a problem, like you said, because some loan signings you do get, and there is a fee that if it’s triggered, then you can then speak to the player. Other teams don’t do it. Like you said, Adam Idah’s not done it.”
Should Rangers dig deep to fund Cerny move?
Bartley is right. Cerny hasn’t just turned up, done a job and then gone home.
Cerny would be happy to stay at Rangers and that the pressure to win is something he thrives on.
The 27-year old has been outstanding in the Europa League, but he has also been a match winner domestically too.
The incident that Bartley refers to saw Cerny have a go at fans, he then gave an emotional interview afterwords, revealing a side that most professional footballers keep hidden away.
Not many players recover from being written off, or missing costly sitters, to become a fans’ favourite, but Cerny has.
It helps that he sent Celtic’s fans into meltdown as well though.
