Rangers seem to be picking up the pace this week in pursuit of a striker with Benie Traore one of the names mentioned.

The 20-year old BK Hacken forward has been on fire this season and is said to be wanted by a host of clubs including Ajax and Old Firm foes Celtic.

With Rangers said to have put in a bid already we have, at least, signalled our intent, however, Benie Traore won’t come cheap, according to a report in The Daily Record.

Speaking about their prized assest, the Swedish outfit’s sporting director, Martin Ericsson, has claimed that only a club transfer record would see the Ivory Coast youth cap depart.

What is the latest on Rangers bid for Benie Traore?

The current figure stands at £3.5m for Patrick Walemark in 2021 and with Rangers reportedly offering £2.8m for Benie Traore, there is some way to go to meet a valuation that is said to be around the £4m mark.

Ericsson, speaking on the interest surrounding Traore said:

“There is a reasonable chance with us that there will be a sale of Benie in the summer. But it also depends entirely on what offers we receive and it also has to be something very good for us to consider it.

“I will not comment on any exact figure for a sale, but it is clear that it would have to be historic amounts for us. For us, it is a win-win situation because we are in a good position where we can get paid well for our players or we keep them.”

So far, Rangers have reportedly made bids for Luis Palma, Cyriel Dessers, Benie Traore and Danilo have all fallen short.

If the board is serious about backing Michael Beale and getting his squad in place before pre-season and, more importantly, before the Champions League qualifiers, they need to find the extra money needed.

Settling for 4th ot 5th choice options because they are cheaper is the very opposite of “not holding back”.
