Rangers Luis Palma deal doubts with Champions League interest sign

Rangers pursuit of Luis Palma has gone quiet recently which suggests that reports of the deal being dead may be accurate.

A complicated player rights issue won’t help negotiations but there is also plenty of interest in the Honduras international.

Fenerbahce were said to be linked and now AEK Athens have been added to a queue that once seemed to have Rangers at the front for Luis Palma’s signature.

The 23-year old winger has a £4.4m price tag on his head according to reports and it may be that Rangers are looking for someone who is more proven for that sort of money.

An offer said to be in the region of £2.5m shows how much we value Palma.

AEK Athens, in the same league as Palma’s side Aris, have qualified for the Champions League and would be an attractive option if he was settled in the country.

Where do Rangers go after Luis Palma roadblock?

After a fast start, things have definitely settled down for Michael Beale and with Cyriel Dessers also looking likely to stay in Italy, a rethink will be required.

A new number nine and winger/attacking midfielder to supply the ammunition remain top priorities.

In the last two seasons, both Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have had to go into Champions League qualifiers with just one striker available.

Getting Jose Cifuentes finalised would be a boost but the midfield is already looking better, the biggest issue now is what cost us the league last season – the forward line.

Not taking chances turned too many draws into defeats and too many wins into draws.

It didn’t help that we kept shooting ourselves in the foot at the other end but goals win games.

Rangers would have been getting more goals in Luis Palma, however, with interest increasing, so too, probably, will his price tag.

There is already a big gap between what we are willing to pay and what Aris want, whoever is next on the list might be about to get a phone call.
