Rangers hunt for strikers appears to be picking up pace with one rumour over the weekend involving Benie Toure cause for particular excitement.

The 20-year old striker has been in blistering form in the Allsvenskan this season and is attracting interest from a host of clubs.

An offer from Rangers is a good indication, however, Benie Traore is a player in demand.

With Michale Beale said to have tabled an offer of £2.8m, the Light Blues are still some way short of a valuation reckoned to be around £4m.

Why Rangers rejected bid for Benie Traore can be a positive

This isn’t a bad thing though because it at least shows that we are trying to get a deal done.

The only issue is that, in Sheffield United, Anderlecht, Ajax and Celtic, there are three clubs who can all, comfortably, afford to go straight in at the asking price, or above.

What this does is instantly turn Rangers pursuit of Benie Traore into one of status.

If the Gers gaffer can land the 15 goal in 19 game striker, then it will show just how persuasive he can be.

Not only that, but it will finally give fans something to be excited about and an indication that the board really is going to back the manager this summer.

Sam Lammers is a good player, as is Cyriel Dessers, however, both players are in their peak years but not exactly in peak form.

Traore is only starting out on his senior career but, if he is capable of a goal or assist every game already, with the right development, he could turn into a real star.

Signing a peak age, established goalscorer just isn’t possible with our budget, however, if Rangers land Benie Traore, we might not need one.
