Reported Rangers target Cyriel Dessers is reportedly being targeted by Galatasaray as a replacement for PSG-bound Argentina forward Mauro Icardi.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers are set to face stiff enough competition from Turkey when it comes to Dessers, with the 28-year-old hot property this summer.

That report also claims that Rangers have had a bid turned down for Cyriel Dessers, with current employers Serie B bound Cremonese demanding over £6.5m for the striker.

Other reports have emerged across the week claiming that Rangers – and Galatasaray – would need to pay £7m if they hope to make any Cyriel Dessers interest concrete.

Cyriel Dessers tipped as Mauro Icardi replacement

With Mauro Icardi just spending the season on loan in Istanbul, where the 30-year-old Argentina star racked up 23 goals in only 26 games, there are some big boots to fill at the Super Lig champions.

Now set to return to PSG, where compatriot and Argentine legend Lionel Messi will not be waiting on him, it’s not only Dessers who is reportedly being targeted by Galatasaray.

Rangers have just released Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos and perhaps El Bufalo will be central to any transfer, with Galatasaray also linked to the outgoing Gers hero.

The Gers still appear firmly in the hunt when it comes to Dessers, with the Belgian perhaps the subject of Michael Beale’s trip to Italy earlier in the campaign.

Rangers know there is an expectation to spend in the striker position this summer, with the club in dire need of added firepower as they look to revive their domestic dominance.

Dessers is just one of ten strikers who have been strongly linked with Rangers this summer and the Belgian-born Nigerian international continues to be prominently mentioned.

But there have also been links to the likes of Sampdoria striker Sam Lammers, whilst USA international Haji Wright of Antalyaspor has also been strongly mentioned.

What a shame Icardi doesn’t appear to be on the list; perhaps a midweek trip to Rugby Park is exactly what the Argentina international needs to reignite his love of the beautiful game!
