Rangers intent revealed with blockbuster Haji Wright bid

Rangers bid to sign Haji Wright looks to have hit a snag after a recent report claimed that a bid had been rejected.

The 6ft 4inch tall USA international forward has been the subject of interest for some time as Michael Beale looks to add extra goals to his attack.

Antalyaspor are reluctant to part ways with their star man and at £7m already, Rangers would have to pay more than they paid for Ryan Kent to land in-demand Haji Wright.

Ertan Zugan is the journalist who has claimed that Rangers have made the offer but nothing concrete has been revealed as of yet.

With 16 goals in 28 games and almost one every two games for his 31 in 63 since joining, flying machine Wright knows where the goals are but he probably wouldn’t get quite the same space in the SPFL.

The going rate for goalscorers has gone up in recent years but Rangers would need some serious persuading to go over £7m

Zugan also claims that Villarreal are interested and have had a €10m offer rejected so, even if Rangers found and extra £2-3m we’d still be short.

At this sort of price you can almost certainly count Rangers out.

Why Rangers are right not to go higher for Wright

We bought Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell for a combined £3m, have secured two free transfers in Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling with Fabrizio Romano claiming Jack Butland and Jose Cifuentes are both close.

There is a reason why the club has only spent over £10m on one occasion, spending it on a 25-year old who we wouldn’t get that back on is a non-starter.

Rangers should keep their money in their pocket if this is the fee needed for Haji Wright.

With the money being saved and the deals that we have agreed recently for Malik Tillman, Ridvan Yilmaz and Ben Davies, a £4-5m fee is certainly doable off the back of a Champions League campaign, record revenue and with departures expected.

The defence and midfield aren’t far away but the front line really needs some seriously investment, it’s also the area of the park that clubs want to hold onto their best talent and charge more money – it could be a long summer.
