Jose Cifuentes looks closer to being a Rangers player after a report from Ecuador revealed when his future will be decided.

The 24-year old has been the subject of intense speculation and appears to be one of Michael Beale’s top targets.

Ecuadorian media outlet Mr Offsider has claimed that Jose Cifuentes has one more hurdle to overcome before finalising his move to Rangers.

Writing on Twitter, Mr Offsider claimed that the deal for Cifuentes is 95% done and all that is needed is for the 15-times capped international to put pen to paper, after his 5th of June second leg Concachampions fixture v Leon:

“Everything given for the arrival of José Cifuentes at Glasgow Rangers.

“The Ecuadorian midfielder will play the finals of the Concachampions and will resolve his signing with the Scottish Gers.”

Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that a deal is imminent and, if anyone should know, it’s football’s transfer guru.

With Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling announced, Jack Butland said to be close, Jose Cifuentes would add to a positive start to the transfer window for Rangers.

The free transfers and a nominal fee for the reportedly £6m rated Cifuentes, who is available on a pre-contract agreement at the end of June and said to be getting a decent pay rise, means that the rebuild has begun without breaking the bank.

So far, only Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos of the big five to leave for nothing have not yet been replaced.

As expected, Michael Beale is dealing with the rebuild first before addressing the issue of a bloated squad but, hopefully, when the window opens, we will see movement in the opposite direction.

The midfield has been an issue for a couple of seasons now and we have seen the impact that the fresh legs of Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell have made.

All we need now is a couple of players at the sharp end to finish the chances that they have been creating.
