Rangers pursuit of Jose Cifuentes is one that appears to be gathering pace and a deal looks to be close.
The 24-year old LAFC midfielder is highly thought of and persuading him to come to Ibrox would be a real coup.
When Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Jose Cifuentes was “really close” to joining Rangers, it was a cause for excitement.
Now, The 4th Official, writing on Patreon, who Romano tagged in his original social media post, has revealed details about the possible transfer.
“Now, I can reveal that the player is close to sealing a deal with Rangers with a transfer fee (set to be a nominal fee) not believed to be a stumbling block with LAFC.
“Negotiations have been underway from some time now with even the agent of the player coming to Glasgow earlier this month to talk with Rangers.
“I have been told that the players’ side believes that an agreement is quite close.”
Rangers beat the queue for Jose Cifuentes
Rangers are in a similar position for Jose Cifuentes as to when Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin were signed.
The difference is that we were in the middle of our season and still in with a shout of lifting two trophies.
Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go to plan.
The fees paid for Cantwell and Raskin, said to be £1.5m and £1.75m respectively, secured quality players to beat the pre-contract rush.
Cifuentes was valued at £6m only last summer so a cut-price deal would represent an excellent deal for the club.
With Cifuentes out of contract in December, the 15-cap Ecuador international will be able to speak to other teams in June.
Agreeing a fee with LA now sees Rangers get in first and also means that the club isn’t held to ransom over wage demands.
A midfield three of Cifuentes, Cantwell and Raskin, put together for less than Rangers paid to get Barry Ferguson back from Blackburn Rovers would be excellent business.
Hopefully, the transfer continues to go smoothly and Michael Beale gets his man.
