Michael Beale has made a positive start to the transfer window for Rangers and it looks like Jack Butland could be next.
With Dujon Sterling announced and praising the manager’s influence, Jose Cifuentes just a matter of time, a new goalkeeper would add to a very solid summer transfer window that hasn’t officially opened yet.
The Gers gaffer said that an new keeper was imminent and now Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a deal for Jack Butland is getting close.
Writing on his Twitter page, Romano, who is fast becoming a public service announcer for Rangers, said:
“Rangers are advancing in negotiations to sign Jack Butland as new goalkeeper on free transfer from Manchester United, deal getting closer.
“Man Utd will sign a new back-up goalkeeper as part of summer plans”
Why Rangers move is perfect for Jack Butland
Rangers need experience and low risk between the sticks and Jack Butland offers exactly that.
Beale would also be getting a solid signing on a free transfer, essential when shopping on a budget.
If Rangers can have a new number eight in Kieran Dowell, a utility defender in Sterling, a box-to-box midfielder in Cifuentes and a goalkeeper in Jack Butland signed with June only in its infancy, we’ll be doing very well.
That we haven’t had to pay large fees for any of them is also a bonus.
Avoiding the rush for free transfers and trying to fill key positions as soon as possible is going to be hugely important for Beale if he is to get the full benefit during pre-season.
Replacing Allan McGregor for Rangers was never going to be an easy task, however, an experienced Premier League keeper who has played for England isn’t a bad place to start with Jack Butland.
At 30-years old, the 9-times capped international should be out to prove that he still has what it takes to be a top keeper.
As Romano says, with no fee involved or other clubs, only the I’s need to be dotted and the T’s crossed.
Rangers rebuild is well and truly underway.
