Rangers have been linked with a duo of Serie A strikers with Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers said to be getting watched by Michael Beale.

Both strikers are very athletic with the latter a towering 6ft 3inches tall but it is Dessers that is the more impressive of the two in terms of pedigree and numbers.

The report by The Daily Mail’s Mark Wilson, via Football Scotland, claims that Rangers are monitoring Cyrieal Dessers and Sam Lammers as the club looks for more firepower and a replacement for Alfredo Morelos.

Could these players have been the cause of the Gers gaffer’s recent Italy trip?

What could Rangers expect from Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers?

A quick check suggests that Dessers could be the striker that Michael Beale has been talking about.

The 28-year old has scored goals for Utrecht, Genk, Feyenoord and Breda before now hitting double figures for Cremonese this season in Italy.

Capped four times by Nigeria too, Dessers has the top level experience that the Gers gaffer spoke about recently when talking about signing players with “grey hair“.

The issue with Dessers is that he only joined Cremonsese this season and has a long-term contract, he wouldn’t come cheap if he is Beale’s top target.

Sam Lammers, at Sampdoria, is a different proposition altogether.

The Netherlands Under-21 international isn’t as prolific for Sampdoria but he is out of contract in the summer and two years younger.

He also has the more impressive CV in terms of clubs in that he has been at three Serie A clubs, Eintracht Frankfurt and PSV Eindhoven.

As a pair, they would offer an excellent balance alongside Antonio Colak and Fashion Sakala plus, Kemar Roofe if he can get himself fit.

With Lammers available on a free transfer, there is no reason why Rangers couldn’t land two, experienced, Serie A strikers this summer.

This is the sort of market that Rangers need to shop in now, either players with elite experience looking for a new challenge or, players at the opposite end of the spectrum looking to move up the ladder.

Atalanta are unlikely to offer Lammers a new contract and Dessers won’t want to drop down to Serie B if Champions League football is on offer so they could both be contenders.

Beale needs to be backed and if the Serie A pair are announced as Rangers players, it’s as clear an indication as any that he is.
