Utrecht striker Tasos Douvikas is set to earn a call-up to the Greece national team as those high-profile links to Rangers begin to cool.
The 23-year-old striker has reportedly been drafted into the nation’s international set-up for the Greeks’ upcoming European Championship Qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland (H) and France (A).
The striker is also being drafted into the squad to replace Panathinaikos forward Fotis Iaonaddis – himself recently linked to Rangers – who has been forced to pull out of the fixtures.
It comes after Tasos Douvikas proved his Greece pedigree in the Eredivisie this season, scoring 19 goals to share the competition’s top scorer award with PSV’s Xavi Simons.
The striker has 15 caps for the Greek national team, netting only once in a World Cup qualifier against Kosovo in May 2021.

Tasos Douvikas earns Greece call but Rangers move unlikely
Rangers had been extensively linked with a £6m move for Greece striker Tasos Douvikas as the club’s hunt for a new number 9 got underway this summer.
But in recent weeks those reports have begun to cool with Rangers’ attentions now appearing to turn elsewhere as the club looks to add more goals to their ranks.
Rangers have been extensively linked with a double striker signing from Italy, with Atalanta’s Dutch striker Sam Lammers reportedly closing in on a move.
There have also been extensive links to Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers, who has just been relegated after only one year turning out in the Italian top flight.
Greece striker Tasos Douvikas was at one point the first choice of many fans to replace outgoing forward Alfredo Morelos but it is funny how quickly things change in football.

With Rangers intentions now firmly set elsewhere, it’ll be interesting to see what happens to the Utrecht forward amid claims the Dutch club need to sell to raise funds this summer.
Rangers aren’t the only team who’ve been linked of course, with a high-profile rival flop reportedly set to be used as a makeweight in an approach from Old Firm rivals Celtic.
