Rangers are now joining the race for Utrecht striker Tasos Douvikas amid links with a move to rivals Celtic.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, who claim that Rangers are becoming a ‘genuine threat’ in the race for Douvikas.

Rangers are thought to be showing a strong interest in Douvikas with Michael Beale desperate for a new striker.

Alfredo Morelos is leaving this summer whilst Antonio Colak could be on his way out after just one year at Ibrox.

Add in Kemar Roofe’s injury problems and Rangers may need two or even three strikers this summer.

Douvikas is now the latest name in the mix with Rangers possibly looking towards Dutch football for a striking solution.

Who is Rangers target Tasos Douvikas?

Douvikas was born in Athens and spent his formative years in the ranks of Aristeas Argous.

Asteras Tripolis pounced in 2015 and he ended up becoming a first-team player there – but with limited success.

Douvikas only managed four goals in 52 games for Asteras, really struggling as a young player.

Volos secured his signature in 2020 and that’s where his ascent really started, finding the net 14 times in 34 games.

Utrecht snapped him up in 2021 and after 10 goals last season, Douvikas has been on fire this term with 18 goals in 31 Eredivisie games.

Douvikas now seems primed for a big move and Rangers could pounce with a summer deal.

As mentioned earlier though, Celtic have been linked too.

The Scottish Sun reported earlier this month that Celtic fancy signing Douvikas in a swap deal.

Bhoys goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas is currently on loan at Utrecht and could be sent there permanently in a deal for Douvikas.

That’s a potential threat to Rangers’ hopes, as is the potential price tag on Douvikas.

Utrecht have outlined that they would want around to raise around €12million (£10.5million) in sales this summer with Douvikas likely to make up a hefty chunk of that.

A fee over £6million may be beyond Rangers this summer with Beale having to operate on a tight budget.

Maybe the Gers can put together a package to sign Douvikas and give Beale the hotshot striker his revolution desperately needs.
