A South American football journalist has claimed that whilst Rangers are “close” to striking a deal for Ecuador international Jose Cifuentes, the club are still locked in negotiations with LAFC.
Argentine journalist Adriano Savalli – who covers football from across the continent of South America and works for the Fútbol Sites media group – has taken to Twitter to provide an update on the midfielder.
According to Savalli, personal terms between Rangers and Ecuador star Jose Cifuentes are “practically agreed” with the Gers still to negotiate the final package with LAFC.
“José Cifuentes, close to becoming a new Rangers player,” said Cifuentes.
“The personal terms are practically agreed, apart from some details. Negotiations between the club and LAFC continue.”

The claims come after Ecuador outlet Mr Offsider suggested that LAFC were hoping to insert some add-ons into the Rangers deal for Jose Cifuentes.
Other reports have suggested that Rangers could pay up to £1.5m to complete a deal for Cifuentes, who is now in the final six months of his contract at LAFC.
The MLS side have also dropped the 24-year-old midfielder from their squad for their most recent match with Colorado, with manager Steve Cherundolo decidedly tight-lipped on the reasons why.
Rangers fans will hope to see a deal for Jose Cifuentes – which could be amongst the most high-profile of the summer given the player’s international pedigree – concluded sooner rather than later.
With the club’s players returning for pre-season, Rangers boss Michael Beale has been busy recruiting for his first-team squad with five players already in the door this summer.
There is talk of Cyriel Dessers and Jonathan Panzo being signings number six and seven this week, whilst links to Feyenoord striker Danilo persist.
But there is also this talk surrounding Jose Cifuentes, who has 16 caps for Ecuador and who played twice at the 2022 World Cup, coming off the bench against Qatar and Senegal in the Group Stages.
