Rangers are hoping to complete a deal for LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes “as soon as possible” – but they will have to accept the MLS side’s “demands” to get the transfer done.
That’s according to Ecuadorean outlet Mr Offsider, who claim that the Gers want the 24-year-old World Cup star in the door at Ibrox sooner rather than later.
In a tweet sent to its over 26k followers, Mr Offsider provided an update on Rangers’ pursuit of Jose Cifuentes with the player now into the final six months of his contract at LAFC.
In it, the tweet appears to allude to potential add-ons in the deal, which would be dependent on the form and success of Jose Cifuentes at Rangers.
Translated, the tweet reads:
“Scottish Rangers seeks to finalize the signing of José Cifuentes as soon as possible. In the end, LAFC made some form demands.”
Earlier reports had suggested Rangers would need to pay up to £1.5m to sign the midfielder in the summer window, with the move having the potential to be a marquee signing for the club.
Having previously been linked to the likes of Man City, Newcastle United and Brighton in the Premier League, Jose Cifuentes also played at the most recent World Cup and is a regular feature of the Ecuador international team.
Rangers closing in on Jose Cifuentes deal?
The claims from Mr Offsider also come after Jose Cifuentes was left out of the LAFC team for their 2-0 MLS defeat to Colorado over the weekend.
Speaking around the game, a coy LAFC boss Steve Cherundolo gave little away with regards as to why the midfielder wasn’t in the squad.
“I believe we covered that in our injury status report,” said Cherundolo. “It was just loading purposes.”
Rangers are well used to negotiating add-ons into their transfer deals by now and it will be up to Jose Cifuentes to maximise the value of the transfer for both the Gers and LAFC.
Whilst the details of the potential add-ons in the Cifuentes deal are sketchy, it now looks like everything is in place to go and complete a deal for the Ecuadorean international.
