Mark Guidi believes Rangers will try and pinch Lyall Cameron on the cheap as far as the compensation payment for his transfer is concerned.
Rangers agreed a pre-contract arrangement for Cameron at the end of the January transfer window, although he won’t technically sign on a free.
That’s because Dundee will be owed training and development compensation for Cameron, who came through the academy ranks at Dens Park.
Rangers ‘pushed’ to sign Cameron in January 2024, but Philippe Clement explained that it wasn’t possible to conclude at that time.
However, the move will happen upon the expiration of Cameron’s contract this summer, with Dundee chairman John Nelms confirming ‘very preliminary’ talks over a compensation fee.

Mark Guidi expects ‘lowball’ Rangers offer for Lyall Cameron
Rangers will want to avoid what happened with Connor Barron from Aberdeen, when it took months and months for a SPFL tribunal to decide a fee.
The Go Radio Football Show’s Mark Guidi hopes Rangers and Dundee can be mature enough to negotiate and come to an agreement – but he expects the Light Blues to lowball their offer.
Guidi said: “Hopefully they can get round the table and be adult about it. Rangers will make an offer which will be lowball, Dundee will ask for something a bit more highball.
“Hopefully they can get together and get something done. And for the player as well, for everybody to know where they stand for budgets in the close season for Dundee.
“Whether it be £200k, £400k, £600k – I have no idea. But that will go into Tony Docherty’s budget. A certainty all round would do everybody the world of good.”
Conjecture surrounding Lyall Cameron to Rangers
Nils Koppen hailed Cameron’s Rangers pre-contract signing as ‘hugely important’, as the technical director aims to sign at least one Scottish homegrown talent per season.
Before being made Rangers interim boss, Barry Ferguson said Cameron will be a ‘brilliant’ addition – but will the former Ibrox captain get the chance to manage the midfielder next season?
Ex-Dundee manager James McPake thinks Cameron will relish playing for Rangers and believes his next aim will be to breach into Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.
While Kris Boyd thinks Rangers have a weakness at the moment – midfielders supporting the striker – that Cameron can solve when he signs next season.
