Rangers had a quiet transfer window with Philippe Clement having to wait until the summer before getting to work with one of the players who were signed.

The manager would have been wanting more reinforcements for this squad, however, the days of waste and signing players just for the sake of it appear to be over.

Lyall Cameron will join Rangers at the end of his Dundee contract with his former manager James McPake tipping him to take his game to the next level.

Lyall Cameron tipped to take game to next level for Rangers

The former Dens boss had Cameron at age group and senior level and has backed the 21-year old to deal with the rise in expectations:

“He needs to go and prove he’s mentally strong enough to play with a club the size of Rangers, which I’m sure he will,” McPake told the Rangers Review. “He’ll go in and relish it. I think going in and playing with better players – and again that’s no disrespect to Dundee, I played there – but when you go into a club like Rangers or Celtic in Scotland then you’re going into the two best clubs.

“It’s a great opportunity for him but I think with his temperament and his attitude he’ll not be happy just going in and doing okay. He’ll want to go in and further his career even more with playing as many games as he can with Rangers.

“He’ll have the ambition of getting in the Scotland squad, he always has said that and he’s been in the 21s quite a lot. But that’s just the mindset he’s got. Every single day he wants to get better. And he’s got a great opportunity now to do that at Rangers.”

Where will Cameron play for Rangers?

Connor Barron has already shown what is possible by being called up to the senior Scotland squad after a string of strong performances and Cameron will be hoping for something similar.

Players like John McGinn and Kenny McLean aren’t getting any younger and Steve Clarke should be looking at the next generation.

With eight goals and seven assists already this season, Cameron would be looking to force his way into the team alongside Nicolas Raskin.

Between domestic and European games, there is more than enough minutes to go around, especially with Mohamed Diomande capable of stepping up a line into the No.10 role.

It’s just a shame that Rangers couldn’t get Cameron in straight away when game time would be even more readily available.
