Rangers star Connor Barron is in line to make his debut for the Scotland national team at the third time of asking.

The 22-year-old has received his first ever direct call-up to the Scotland set-up following a summer move to Rangers from Aberdeen.

But this is not the first time Connor Barron has been included in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad after twice earning late call-ups due to late call-offs.

Yet to make his debut for the Scotland national team, Barron will hope to pull on the dark blue jersey over the next week or so after ‘impressing’ the Scotland manager.

Connor Barron earns maiden Scotland call

Connor Barron has been an ever-present for Rangers playing a part in all 20 of the Gers’ games so far this campaign, starting 18 of them.

It’s been a steep learning curve for the kid since moving to Ibrox but Barron has earned the plaudits of supporters for his energetic, determined and all-action displays.

A positive passer who has brought energy to a stagnant midfield, Rangers fans are enjoying the midfielder’s development in real-time.

Now Connor Barron looks set to take the next step in his footballing career as that maiden direct call-up paves the way for minutes in the coming week.

Scotland will host Croatia at Hampden before finishing a disappointing UEFA Nations League campaign away to Poland.

Steve Clarke ‘impressed’ by Rangers midfielder

It is a long shot for Scotland to progress given the stipulations with the nation rooked to the bottom of UEFA Nations League A Group 1.

Therefore the next couple of matches – and particularly the clash with Poland – could represent an opportunity for Steve Clarke to tinker with his under fire team.

Whilst Scotland drew 0-0 with Portugal last time – Rangers defender John Souttar being crowned Player of the Match – Steve Clarke’s team have only one win in the last 16 games.

Connor Barron would do well do dislodge Napoli duo Billy Gilmour & Scott McTominay, Aston Villa star John McGinn, or even Norwich City’s Kenny McLean.

But Steve Clarke insists he has been ‘impressed’ by the Rangers midfielder who has a ‘good attitude’ as he continues to progress at Ibrox.

“I think he’s done really well, I was impressed with Connor yesterday,” Clarke told the press after naming his team.

“He was a good player for Rangers yesterday (vs Motherwell), he’s been good any time I’ve watched him this year.

“He’s obviously been in the squads before, he shows a good attitude, knows he’s still working and learning the game.

“He’s been pleasing, I’ve been really pleased with Connor.”
