Connor Barron Rangers value described by Scotland boss Steve Clarke

Connor Barron has handled the significant jump from Aberdeen to Rangers well this season.

The midfielder has become a standout performer for Philippe Clement and always brings consistency as well as a drive and determination that is perhaps left wanting in some other first-team stars.

The 22-year-old has already played 17 times for the club this season and is fast becoming undroppable for the manager as Gers look to get their season back on track.

Barron’s impressive form in the engine room has also earned the young man his first call-ups into the Scotland set-up under manager Steve Clarke and it has been a deserved shout.

Clarke knows how pivotal Barron has been to Rangers this campaign so far and while he is yet to officially cap the former Dons playmaker, it is only a matter of time.

The national team head coach watched the midfield ace play well against Motherwell in what was ultimately a narrow victory at Hampden in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

And while it may not necessarily have been the most comfortable outing of the year for the club, Clarke noted Barron as having a good game despite some of his teammates offering less.

Clarke knows how important Barron has been to his side this year so far and he was full of praise as he met the media this week for the man he could hand his first cap in fixtures against Croatia and Poland in the Nations League later this month.

“I think he’s done really well, I was impressed with Connor yesterday,” Clarke told the press after naming his team.

“He was a good player for Rangers yesterday (vs Motherwell), he’s been good any time I’ve watched him this year.

“He’s obviously been in the squads before, he shows a good attitude, knows he’s still working and learning the game.

“He’s been pleasing, I’ve been really pleased with Connor.”
