Nils Koppen has addressed Rangers fans after the club confirmed the pre-contract signing of Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron.

The Ibrox technical director has previously pledged to make signing the top young homegrown talent in Scotland a Rangers transfer priority.

The summer arrival of Lyall Cameron, who has been a standout with Dundee in the Scottish Premiership this season, is a statement of that intent.

Rangers have since announced the signing of Cameron, who will join up with the Ibrox squad in the summer, and Nils Koppen could not be happier.

Nils Koppen on ‘hugely important’ Lyall Cameron deal

“I am delighted that we have agreed a deal for Lyall to join the club and to continue his career at Rangers come the summer,” Koppen told the Rangers website.

“He is a talented young player, who has already gained great experience in the Scottish Premiership, and adding young, Scottish talent to our first-team squad is hugely important to all of us at the club.

“Lyall has a lot of potential and I look forward to seeing him continue to grow at Rangers in the coming years.”

Rangers transfer deadline day hunt continues

Despite announcing the pre-contract transfer of Lyall Cameron, Rangers have only signed one player this January.

Rafael Fernandes stands as the only deal Rangers have managed to conclude with the club to run the rule over the Lille centre-back heading into the summer.

Rangers have also moved on players like Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell this month but are yet to make any signings in the offensive part of the pitch.

Rumours linking Rangers to PSV Eindhoven attacker Couhaib Driouech have been silenced but the club are in the market for another new arrival this January.

Rangers might be 10 points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership but the club still has the Europa League and Scottish Cup in their sights this season.

Philippe Clement has been clear that he believes the squad needs to be strengthened and Rangers continue to work on transfers in the background.
