Reports claiming Jose Cifuentes is due for an imminent Rangers medical are short-lived as the Ibrox side are reportedly getting set to wait on the LAFC midfielder.
According to Football Scotland, a deal for Jose Cifuentes will not be struck until after 1st July when the World Cup star enters the final six months of his current contract at the MLS club.

This means that earlier reports claiming a medical was imminent for Jose Cifuentes have been short-lived with the club now reportedly around three weeks away from any transfer being completed.
The suggestion also refutes claims coming out of Ecuador which had suggested that Rangers’ move for Jose Cifuentes was set to be completed after the CONCACAF Champions League Final.
Jose Cifuentes Rangers medical reports short-lived
Rangers now face a waiting game when it comes to moving for Jose Cifuentes, who remains an LAFC player and is a key member of their squad which is in the middle of the MLS season.
The 24-year-old is also said to be keen on a move to Rangers, with the player’s agent being treated to the Ibrox experience in the 3-0 Old Firm victory over Celtic towards the end of last season.
The suggestion that Rangers are some way off flying Jose Cifuentes over to Glasgow for a medical also appears to back up comments made by Michael Beale when asked about the midfielder.
As the news broke regarding Rangers’ interest, and Cifuentes himself stepped up the chatter by liking tweets urging him to come to Ibrox, Beale suggested that a deal was still some way off back on the 19th of May.
“(The deal) is not that close, if I’m honest,” said Beale.” These things pick up speed in the newspapers. He’s obviously a good player but his contract runs until December.
“If you look at the length of that it’s not close. December seems a long long way away.”
Jose Cifuentes isn’t the only Rangers transfer target whose been the subject of medical reports either, with Dutch striker Sam Lammers another who is reportedly closing in on a switch.
