Rangers are now expecting LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes to arrive for a medical in the very near future.

The Gers secured another signing on Tuesday evening as Jack Butland’s move to Ibrox was finally confirmed after weeks of speculation.

Rangers had already snapped up Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling, with a third free transfer now secured.

Michael Beale’s next signing may cost a fee though as Rangers hope to get LAFC star Jose Cifuentes signed up.

The Glasgow Times report that Cifuentes is now ‘poised’ to quit LAFC and become a Rangers player very soon.

It’s stated that Cifuentes is now expected to fly over to Glasgow for a medical in the very near future with Rangers closing in.

Cifuentes is out of contract at the end of the year, meaning Rangers are pushing for a cut-price cash deal for the midfielder.

The 24-year-old featured for Ecuador at the World Cup and will now join Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell in a new-look Rangers midfield.

Jose Cifuentes may leave on Champions League pain

The expectation now is that Cifuentes will soon become a Rangers player.

It’s unclear whether that means Cifuentes has already played his final game for LAFC.

Maybe we will learn more on Thursday; LAFC host Atlanta United at 3:30am UK time on Thursday morning.

If Cifuentes doesn’t play in that game, we can be fairly safe in the knowledge that he is heading for Rangers.

That would also meant that Cifuentes is going out on Champions League heartbreak.

LAFC faced Leon in the CONCACAF Champions League final, losing 3-1 on aggregate.

Cifuentes came off the bench in the second leg having started in the 2-1 first-leg defeat in Mexico.

Chances are expected at LAFC after this painful defeat and it will may well start with Cifuentes moving on.

Let’s just hope that his defeat can spur him on to bring silverware to Ibrox once his deal goes through.
