Rangers are reportedly on the verge of signing Manchester City winger Brandon Barker on a free, permanent deal, according to reports [Jack Gaughan].
The talented wide man was once City’s Academy Player of the Year and at 22, is entering a pivotal time in his career.
Someone with undoubted talent, it sounds like the winger could get the chance to reach it at Rangers. But what does it say about the club’s high-profile pursuit of a player at another Premier League giant?

The saga surrounding Ryan Kent threatened to rumble on all summer, and rumble on all summer it has.
Rangers have never denied their pursuit of the Liverpool winger but after a high-profile phone call with Jurgen Klopp, Gerrard appeared to confirm the deal was dead [

Well, so long as Liverpool hoped to sell the winger in this transfer window.
Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly a fan of the winger [Phil Hay] but with the English Premier League and Championship transfer windows set to close, Kent might still be a Liverpool player.
Should he fail to move to Leeds United, or anyone else for that matter, before today’s 5 pm deadline,
reports yesterday suggested all hope is not lost in Rangers pursuit of the player [Bruce Archer].

But the signing of Brandon Barker – someone of similar age and attributes – would suggest Rangers may well have moved on from the idea of signing last year’s SPFA Young Player of the Year.
Then again, Rangers still have to replace Daniel Candeias, who left the club for Gençlerbirliği of Turkey.
