Steven Gerrard spoke candidly about the need to improve the side after crashing out of Europe. Whilst saying that, he didn’t attack the current crop he has either.
This Rangers squad is thin. That thinness has been tested to its limits plenty already this year.
We need reinforcements or risk slipping away in the league. That’s also provided we dig in and stay in the race come the turn of the year.
But where exactly do Rangers need to improve? Here we look at the four areas of the pitch and ask what we need to do.

Goalkeeper
Perhaps the only area we don’t need to see any new faces. Well, unless Wes Foderingham leaves in the window. He’s been linked with Leeds. McGregor is reliable and top class. There’s no need to change it up. Even if he did miskick the ball out to the Rapid attacker last night.

Defence
This is a strange one. We already have four centre backs. But if Worrall goes back, someone else has to come in. I think what we’re crying out for in this position is consistency, right across the backline. Greek international Vassilis Lambropoulos has been linked. The first half of the season has also proved we need better cover at left back too. Birger Meling anyone?

Midfield
A real problem area for the club. We lack bite, creativity and consistency in this position. Ryan Jack was superb last night, and Scott Arfield has come good at times, but beyond that we’re weak. I’d like to see a couple in here. Starting with Steven Davis. For energy and goals, should we stop beating around the bush and recall Greg Docherty?

Attack
Again, this is somewhere where we’ve been shown up to be light too many times. There’s been big talk of the likes of Dominic Solanke joining as Umar Sadiq was sent home. We’ve also been linked with Gillingham striker Tom Eaves. Expect movement in this position. On the wings we’ve been light too – but that could be set to be resolved very soon. Is Jordan Jones on his way to Ibrox?
