Birger Meling is a name that will be more familiar with Rangers Old Firm rivals Celtic. The Rosenborg left back has faced off against them six times in the last two years.

He also scored the opener in Celtic’s 3-1 win over the Norwegian Champions in July.

He might’ve eventually came off worse, but he has certainly impressed. He’s also one of the Norwegian Champions most talented outlets.

Whilst he hasn’t been linked with the club, Rangers should at least have a look at the 23-year-old full back.

But would he provide the quality cover at full-back Rangers need?

Birger Meling would be a solid addition for Rangers

Former Middleborough youth Meling already has 10 caps for Norway. He is a stand-out in a dominant squad domestically.

There’s no doubt his future lies away from Trondheim.

Rangers haven’t seen the best of Borna Barisic yet. The Croatian international looks set to return to the squad this weekend. It’s a huge boost and can make a big difference for Rangers. We’ve missed him.

But when he’s been out the team, Rangers have struggled on the left. Both Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday aren’t natural left backs.

But Birger Meling is and Rangers could add real quality to their squad for a minimal investment.

He’ll also have no problem settling in given he’s already scored at Parkhead.
