Rangers face stiff competition from a range of European clubs for the signature of Rennes defender Mexer, including Europa League semi-finalists Frankfurt.
The big Mozambican defender, 30, is highly rated and is attracting interest from around the continent.
The Scottish Sun is reporting that along with Rangers, Mexer is wanted by Nantes, Bordeaux and Frankfurt.

And despite interest from elsewhere, one report in France claims that
Rangers are “getting closer” to securing the player’s signature.
But there is clearly still work to be done to convince the player his future is at Ibrox. As part of this, Rangers have even reportedly invited Mexer to this weekend’s Old Firm match [originally Daily Record].
The hope is that the atmosphere at one of the world’s more ferocious derbies is the tipping point for the deal.
Mexer is a strong, powerful defender who is also comfortable on the ball. The player has also been in superb form for Rennes this season.
