Rangers Mexer signing “getting closer” – French football journalist

Rangers fourth summer signing is “getting closer”, according to French football journalist Rich Allen.
Rennes centre back Mexer has been linked to a move with the club with reports claiming Steven Gerrard flew out to France to meet with the centre back.
Reports have intensified in recent days and it appears Rangers’ interest is legitimate. The big Mozambican defender is available on a free transfer with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Rich Allen appears to believe the deal is creeping closer to completion as Rangers look to strengthen their backline.
The French football writer also claims Rennes want to keep him in France. As a result, Allen doesn’t rule out Mexer using the interest as a “bargaining tactic”.
Whatever the case, the claim appears to back up earlier reports of Rangers interest. The Ibrox club is on the hunt for centre backs with Joe Worrall set to return to Nottingham Forest and Gareth McAuley likely to have played his last game for the club.
Rangers have been busy in the early part of the season snapping up a range of pre-contracts. Mexer would become the club’s fourth Bosman signing of the summer.

The 30-year-old Mozambican would join Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and
Steven Davis in signing a pre-contract deal with the club.
And if the defender needs any final convincing about coming to Ibrox, perhaps he could ask his former boss with a big Rangers connection.
