Rangers have been linked with a move for Rennes centre half Mexer as Steven Gerrard looks to improve his squad. The 30-year-old is available on a free contract come June.
The big Mozambique defender has been on solid form in Ligue One and according to L’Equipe, Steven Gerrard was spotted in France in the wake of the interest.
But could it be a former Rangers manager who manages to secure the deal for the player?

Pedro Caixinha managed Mexer whilst he was in charge of Portuguese outfit Nacional.
The big defender, born Edson André Sitoe, played under Caixinha for a short spell in 2012. Mexer joined in the summer whilst Caixinha left Nacional in October.
Caixinha flopped as Gers boss but there’s no doubt he could sell the club to the Mozambican centre half. Should Mexer be interested in coming to Ibrox, he may well even touch base with Pedro himself.

Mexer has been on solid form for Rennes this season and even scored the equaliser in the club’s recent French Cup win over PSG.
He brings with him a wealth of experience and 46 caps for home country Mozambique.
