Steven Gerrard has revealed that Gareth McAuley won’t play for Rangers again this season.
Speaking in the build-up to this weekend’s match with Hibs, Gerrard was speaking about who had been ruled out of the game at Ibrox.
In doing so he said that the veteran Northern Irishman is set to miss the rest of the season. That also suggests he might’ve played his final game for Rangers.
“Gareth McAuley’s got a hamstring problem,” said Gerrard. “He won’t play again for us this season.”
Rangers signed McAuley on a free transfer at the beginning of the season after the 39-year-old’s contract expired at West Brom.
An international legend for Northern Ireland and someone with vast Premier League experience, his signing added a some much-needed wisdom to a generally young backline.
McAuley has made 10 appearances in total for Rangers this season, with his last coming against Cowdenbeath in January.
With his contract running down at Ibrox that may well also prove to be his final game for the club.

Rangers have also been linked with a range of centre-halves as we go into the summer transfer window, including Mozambican Rennes stopper Mexer.
Joe Worrall looks increasingly likely to go back to Nottingham Forest whilst McAuley’s contract is unlikely to be renewed.
Has the big defender played his last game for the club?
