Luis Palma to Rangers: Latest update likely to devastate supporters

Aris winger Luis Palma is not a Rangers target heading into the summer despite a range of reports to the contrary.

That’s according to the Daily Record and journalist Scott Burns, who claim 13-goal attacker Luis Palma is “not on Beale’s or the Ibrox side’s radar” despite extensive claims that the winger is a Gers target.

This will come as a blow to supporters who had got excited during the week when Luis Palma uploaded a story to Instagram where he seemed to signal his departure from the Greek Super League club.

Several high-profile journalists in Greece have also run with claims that Rangers are interested in Luis Palma with the suggestion being he will cost around £4.4m (€5m) to bring to the club.

Leading Ibrox fan media Heart & Hand also claimed that they believed there was “something in” those Rangers links to Luis Palma and the Record report would appear to contradict these claims.

Perhaps more definitively, the claims go against comments from Aris sporting director Robert Palikuca who appeared to confirm Rangers’ interest in Luis Palma in the week.

At the same time the Aris chief claimed that there is interest in Luis Palma from across Europe and, more pertinently, well-financed clubs in the MLS.

“We will consider our options, if an offer comes in that is up to our standards, then a sale will take place,” said Palikuca.

“He is a player with a lot of room for development. He’s not finished.

“Is it only Rangers interested? There is also interest from American teams, very strong financially, as well as European teams.”

Blow in Ryan Kent replacement hunt

If the Daily Record have got their facts right, and Palma is not a Rangers target, then it will come as a blow to Ibrox fans who’d begun to warm to the potential signing.

A possible replacement for the seemingly Fenerbahce-bound Ryan Kent, the signing of the 23-year-old Honduran international would have been a bright start to what is going to be a pivotal window.

As things stand, the links are certainly up in the air. But there appears to be some conflicting messaging about potential Rangers interest in the spritely attacker.
