The sporting director of Greek Super League club Aris has confirmed Rangers’ interest in Honduran winger Luis Palma but claims they face fierce competition from the MLS.

Speaking after Luis Palma appeared to sign off from Aris via Instagram, Robert Palikuca directly mentioned Rangers in an interview about the player’s future.

Speaking to Deportes TVC, Palikuca claimed that Rangers face competition from MLS clubs who are “very strong financially” as well as other sides in Europe.

Interestingly, the Aris sporting director claims the club are open to selling Luis Palma should an appropriate offer land on their table this summer.

“We will consider our options, if an offer comes in that is up to our standards, then a sale will take place,” said Palikuca.

“He is a player with a lot of room for development. He’s not finished.

“Is it only Rangers interested? There is also interest from American teams, very strong financially, as well as European teams.”

Reports are suggesting that Rangers will have to pay around £4.4m (€5m) to sign Palma from Aris this summer with the Ibrox side preparing for a summer of spending.

Rangers are also set for the exit of influential first-teamer Ryan Kent, with Palma standing out as the player they are perhaps looking to replace him with.

It’s not just Palikuca who is confirming the Rangers links to Palma either, with club insiders and leading fan media Heart & Hand namedropping the player too.

“I do think the interest is real in Palma,” said David Edgar on the platform’s Daily Update for 15/05/23.

“I do think there is something is there (sic).

“As I’ve mentioned before my belief and understanding is that Rangers are going to spend money this summer and if there is a big signing of £5m and upwards, it will be a forward player because you need to.

“That’s the area that we are weakest in.”
