Danny Rohl has seen his hopes of returning to Germany come crashing down after a new development away from Rangers.
The Light Blues’ uninspiring end to the 2025-26 season raised doubts over Rohl’s future in Govan, but Andrew Cavenagh was quick to extend his support to his head coach publicly.
Rohl, for his part, has stressed his commitment to Rangers next season, but it would not be surprising if he secretly wished to return to his homeland.
The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has notably been linked with several German clubs, including Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen, this summer.

Danny Rohl faces snub as Wolfsburg in advanced talks with another candidate
There has been a feeling in some quarters that Cavenagh’s support for Rohl may not be as strong as he claims it to be, with Keith Jackson suspecting a game of bluff.
The Daily Record journalist suggested that Rangers may be attempting to position themselves to demand a significant compensation fee for the German tactician.
However, Rohl is set to be forced to shelve any hopes of returning to Germany, as Wolfsburg are moving ahead with another candidate altogether.
According to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg, Wolfsburg are in advanced talks to hire Tobias Strobl as their new boss.

Wolfsburg are preparing for life in the second division after being relegated from the Bundesliga and have zeroed in on the SC Verl boss as their man.
Leverkusen also seem to be moving in a different direction, with advanced negotiations already held with Filip Luis.
However, the former Chelsea man does not have a UEFA Pro Licence, thus jeopardising the deal.

Rangers backing Rohl as summer overhaul in full swing
This puts suggestions that Rohl may still leave Ibrox this summer to bed.
With Wolfsburg and Leverkusen turning their attention elsewhere, the 37-year-old is certain to begin the 2026-27 season as the Gers head coach.
Rohl appears to be on the same page with Cavenagh at Rangers, and the two appear keen to oversee a summer overhaul.
The Premiership heavyweights have already signed Lawrence Shankland, with as many as 10 new signings mooted this window.
