Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has revealed that he is ready to battle Rangers for the signature of Birmingham forward Greg Stewart.
Rangers have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old forward. Reports this morning suggested the deal is edging closer to being done [originally Daily Record].

Currently on loan at Aberdeen from Birmingham City, Stewart’s contract expires at the end of the season. And McInnes remains hopeful of signing the player.
“If there was a chance to keep Greg then I would be doing my best to keep him,” said McInnes, as quoted by BBC Scotland.
“We felt in January, speaking to him and his agent, that they wanted to look at options.”
Those “other options” appear to be the likes of Rangers. The Ibrox club appears eager to add bluenose Stewart to the ranks, as the club look to add value for money.
The move for Stewart also comes as Rangers have reportedly pulled out of the move for Motherwell’s Jake Hastie [originally Evening Times].
And McInnes is unsurprised Rangers are looking at the player. The Aberdeen forward is someone the former Rangers midfielder really admires.

“It’s no surprise his agent has been speaking to clubs, there’s a lot of clubs that would recognise Greg’s talent,” said Derek McInnes.
“When you saw him come on the other night [against Motherwell] he helped the game go our way with his quality.”
Rangers fans are split over whether a move for the player is the right one.
