Rangers started quickly then ground to a halt in a transfer window that has been a strange one across Europe.
Philippe Clement is keen to bring in his own players to rebuild the squad but knows that it won’t be easy, given that players need to be moved on first.
The good news is that, after the manager hinted that new arrivals could be on the way, an international class forward could soon be announced.

Rangers interest in winger Vaclav Cerny confirmed
Having hinted on social media that he was keeping an eye on Rangers, Vaclav Cerny has been confirmed as a player who Nils Koppen is trying to bring to Glasgow.
The 26-year old right-winger is naturally left-footed and exactly what has been missing in recent years and is a real upgrade on the current incumbents.
Speaking on the Daily Update for the 24th of July, David Edgar provided the latest transfer details:
“The news of a potential signing, he is Vaclav Cerny, a Czech international who was at the Euros with the Czechia national team.
“He presently plays for VFL Wolfsburg in Germany, they signed him last year for £10m but it looks as though he could be on his way to Rangers.
“He is a right-footed left winger (note: other way around) and is a decent attacking player by the looks of things, started his career in the Ajax academy.
“Made his way through the Eredivisie before earning his move to the Bundesliga and it looks as though he is one of the players coming in.
“Now, I don’t have any details at the moment on deal structure in terms of how it would be put together, we don’t know this at the moment and the deal, is not complete.
“But the interest is confirmed, and he is a player Ranger are interested in and want to bring into the club.”
Cerny could be the signing that Rangers fans need to believe
Rangers need more quality if they are to qualify for the Champions League and Cerny is certainly an upgrade on any current member of the squad.
He is of a good age in terms of experience, has a proven track record and has been injury free for the last three seasons.
There are two long term knee injuries hiding in the closet, but he looks to be over them now.
Rangers fans need something, a player like Cerny would be a real lift and give fans the sense that Koppen and Clement can be trusted to bring the right calibre of player to Ibrox, or Hampden as the case may be.
