It’s not quite all doom and gloom, however, Rangers have started to stall in a transfer window that is as big as any in the last decade.
The squad is in desperate need of repair with five youngsters coming to Ibrox to replace the five senior players who departed, but this barely touches the surface.
The spine of the team other than Jack Butland and Mohamed Diomande is questionable and the futures of over 10 players in the squad is up in the air.

Philippe Clement drops positive Rangers transfer update
Rangers need to strengthen though, despite the issues with the size of the squad and the wage bill but, amid interest in Joan Jordan and Cheikh Niasse, Philippe Clement has some encouraging news via RTV:
“We’re not there where we want to be end of August but I don’t think it’s in one team in the world.
“The case, and I know everywhere supporters want that but it’s not possible.
“So, everybody’s working hard on that.
“How fast things go, you never have control on that because it has to do with yourself, what you can spend, with other teams whether they want to let players go and how much they ask for that and it’s about convincing also players.
“So, there are several players who are convinced that Rangers is a good place, but you still need negotiations around that.”
Rangers looking in good shape as Clement talks transfers
Reading between the lines, despite needing to sell players, Rangers are on the right tracks.
If players have agreed to join Rangers, the difficult part is done, the fine print, hopefully, will take care of itself.
There is no point talking to clubs and players if the finances are going to block a deal.
It is a lot of wasted time and effort, especially given the size of the task facing Nils Koppen.
Clement also spoke about the European Championships holding the window up and he is right.
There is a domino effect that is kick started by the big spending teams at the top and, of course, the Saudi Pro League whose window opens this week.
The panic is because of when the season starts, not when the transfer window opens.
Bigger clubs don’t have to concern themselves with Champions League qualifiers – Rangers do.
The manager will have one eye on the deadline, however, it is the qualifying campaign for the continent’s elite tournament that will have been D-day for the recruitment team.
It sounds like Rangers have enough irons in the fire to make a difference, all they need to do now is get them over the line.
