Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen might be up against it but Rangers recruitment plans won’t stop despite the recent hiccup.

The manager has opened up on the need to move players on before serious money can be spent but that doesn’t mean that their hands are entirely tied.

The loan market remains a viable source with Rangers having been linked with Sevilla’s Joan Jordan

Rangers target Joan Jordan shown Sevilla exit door

An initial approach has been knocked back with the Light Blues said to be hoping for a favour from the Spaniards in terms of the Catalan’s weekly pay packet.

On a reported £69,000 per week, he is, obviously, a little out of Rangers budget.

The latest news is that somewhere around 50% could be enough to seal the deal with Sevilla chief Victor Orta explaining via ABC why they are keen to move Jordan and a couple of his teammates on:

“They have been told that they are not part of the project. We respect their contracts, but it is better for them to choose other options.

“The club informed Jordán’s representatives of its intention, we thought that his cycle had ended. It has been very clear to him. They have known this since… I think before Barça.

“His representative had a meeting with the club and it was clearly stated to him.”

Rangers could add real quality without breaking the bank

Deportivo Alaves have had an offer rejected and there is also said to be interest from Greece.

Jordan is exactly the type of player that Rangers need to bring to Ibrox this summer.

Someone to add composure and discipline to the midfield in and out of possession as well as someone who can protect the back four and put out fires.

If Rangers can’t afford a player of Jordan’s ability on a permanent basis, getting them in on loan is the next best thing.

Clubs all over the top five leagues use this system and it isn’t the poor man’s transfer option anymore.

As a two-time winner of the Europa League, Jordan also has over 200 La Liga appearances and over 20 in the Champions League

In short, he is a seriously experienced campaigner at the highest level.

There was a lot of experience that left Rangers at the end last season and there hasn’t been any of note signed so far.

The young players all have something about them but having someone with the standing of Jordan in the middle of the park would be a real upgrade.

The door has been opened, can Koppen and Clement kick it off its hinges.
