Ex-UEFA wonderkid Vaclav Cerny has Rangers transfer sleuths riled up in Instagram eye raiser

Rangers transfer rumours have gone a bit dry in recent days, even weeks, as Philippe Clement marks time on his summer rebuild.

The manager has hinted that there are new signings lined up, but that patience is needed, the squad now won’t be the same when the window shuts.

Clement is up against it alongside Nils Koppen as the deadline for the Champions League approaches and a qualifier against Partizan Belgrade or Dynamo Kyiv

One name has emerged from nowhere and they have added to the speculation by following Rangers on Instagram – Vaclav Cerny.

Vaclav Cerny follows Rangers on Instagram, is it a hint?

With no connection to the club, no former or current international teammates playing for the Gers, it is a bit of a coincidence, especially with it being his most recent action.

The Czech winger is left-footed but plays on the right-hand side and has plenty of pace too.

He learned his trade at Ajax where Marc Overmars was clearly a fan:

“Shortly after I took up my position in Ajax my colleagues recommended I had a look at one player. It was Václav. I needed only two minutes to understand why they wanted me to do that.

“You can recognise talent at the first sight. I cannot compare us, maybe I was a bit faster but Vašek is definitely more skilful.”

At international level he was also one to be watch with former Czech national team assistant manager Karel Krejci singing the 26-year old’s praises:

“As a boy he was outstanding and won a lot of individual prizes. He is a very effective footballer with creative ideas. He has opted for the career outside his country and decided to play in the Ajax academy.

“Now there’s a very important step in front of him, he has to adapt and settle in senior football. This transition is not easy and we’ll see how he manages. There’s no doubt he’s an interesting and talented player. “

These comments were both recorded when Cerny was only a teenager and breaking into Ajax’s first team with UEFA naming him as one of their wonderkids

There has been nothing concrete as yet for the Wolsfburg flyer and the German’s only bought Cerny last year for a fee in the region of £6m.

With just 12 starts in the league, it may be that he is keen to move on or that the Bundesliga outfit want to make some money back.

As with Adama Traore who scored a hat-trick for Ferencvaros in the second Champions League qualifying round, Cerny is a known quantity with a proven background.

It would cost more, but it would be less risk.

Quality though, sometimes comes at a price.
