Spanish outfit Sevilla are set to secure a deal for Ajax’s Belgian midfielder Stanis Idumbo Muzambo amid links to reported Rangers target Steven Alzate.

The Gers have been linked with a move for Brighton star Alzate, 25, as Philippe Clement looks to bolster his squad this January.

But the Rangers manager will reportedly face some stiff competition for the English-born Colombian international, who has spent the first half of the season on loan at Standard Liege.

According to reports earlier in the week, La Liga pair Sevilla and Granada are interested in Steven Alzate but Rangers will note those reports around Idumbo Muzambo.

It’s transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano who has been giving it the “here we go” about Sevilla’s interest in the Ajax teenager.

According to the Italian reporter, Sevilla have struck a €400k (£344k) deal to sign Stanis Idumbo Muzambo from Ajax’s youth team.

Yet to make an appearance for the Ajax first-team, there’s a feeling that as talented as the Belgian youth international might be, this is a project player coming into the Spanish side.

Steven Alzate on the other hand would more likely be signed for the club’s first team but it’s interesting to see Sevilla make early January moves in the position.

Rangers transfer focus shifts

Those links to Rangers meanwhile have gone a little cold on the continent as Alzate recovers from an ankle injury at parent club Brighton.

The reports instead appear to be focused on other areas of the squad with left-back an area of concern alongside the much-discussed striker berth.

With Ridvan Yilmaz and Sam Lammers potentially set to leave the club, replacements aplenty have been mooted in the press.

Not least Belgian hitman Michy Batshuayi.

The Fenerbahce striker came through at Steven Alzate’s loan club Standard Liege and continues the very Belgian theme running through this transfer window at Ibrox.

But whilst Rangers have had their issues in the middle of the park – Dujon Sterling being called upon in recent matches – it does not seem to be a priority position as things stand.

Indeed, it’s being claimed Rangers are sitting on Alzate for the time being in the winter window and it appears so are Sevilla.
