Ridvan Yilmaz suitors Verona are holding out for a post-Josh Doig payday from Marseille in reports which raise eyebrows over Rangers’ transfer demands.
There looks set to be something of a revolving left-back door this transfer window with Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz edging closer to a move to Serie A.
The murmurs in Scotland are that the Ibrox side will recoup a £3m fee for the ex-Besiktas star, therefore making a small loss on the £3.4m paid in 2022.
But the latest news surrounding Josh Doig, Verona, and interest from Marseille surely points to the Ibrox club being shortchanged in the transfer market.
Josh Doig, Marseille and Rangers links
Whilst Rangers have also been linked with a move for ex-Hibs full-back Josh Doig, 21, reports of a €6m (£5.2m) transfer valuation should’ve killed the speculation at source.
But amid Verona’s interest in Ridvan Yilmaz, it had everyone speculating over a potential player-plus-cash deal to bring Doig back to the shores of the Scottish Premiership.
Now, the latest surrounding Josh Doig suggests that Marseille and long-term suitors Torino are locked in negotiations with Verona over a move.
Managed by ex-Rangers star Gennaro Gattuso, Sport Italia journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims the Ligue 1 side have launched a €5m (£4.3m) bid for the left-back.
Verona – as they seemingly have been throughout the window – are now holding out for €6m (£5.1m) with Torino also well in the hunt.
Needless to say, it’s a fee we do not see Rangers paying with other areas of the club’s squad a greater concern.

Is quoted Ridvan Yilmaz to Verona fee fair?
On top of holding out for £5.1m for Josh Doig, Verona are also on the verge of a £4.7m cash boost from the sale of AC Milan-bound utility man Filippo Teraccianno.
Although traditionally a right-sided midfielder, the young Italian has filled in at left-back throughout the season and it means a combined £9.8m is set to come into the position at Verona.
Amid claims Rangers are only going to bank £3m for Ridvan Yilmaz, who is contracted to the club until 2027, this all suggests we’re being somewhat shortchanged.
To put that into context, Rangers signed a deal which could potentially reach £5m in the last year of Yilmaz’s contract at Besiktas.
Whilst injury and the adjustment to life in Glasgow has hampered Yilmaz’s development, there is a highly-rated young player there and at 22-years-old, £3m seems a tad short by our count.
Throw in the fact Verona are also set to bank a reported €3m (£2.5m) from the sale of defender Martin Hongla then suddenly the Italian club could be over £12m in the green this winter.
At least we know Verona will certainly have the resources to sign Ridvan Yilmaz from Rangers, but something tells us we might live to regret selling ourselves short.
