Josh Doig has told Verona he wants to join Torino as Rangers get set to potentially miss out on the left-back.
There has been much speculation linking Rangers with a move for ex-Hibs left-back Doig, 21, as the club prepare for a window of change in the position.
The fact that Serie A side Verona are reportedly closing in on a move for Rangers star Ridvan Yilmaz has also added a sense of intrigue to the situation.
It had been suggested that Rangers might try to arrange a swap deal with Verona, sending the Turkish international to Italy and returning Josh Doig to Scotland.
Josh Doig tells Verona he wants Torino move
With links to Torino getting stronger by the day, it appears the left-back has made his mind up this January as a switch to the Serie A side gets closer.
At least that’s according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, who are reporting that Josh Doig had told Verona he wants to move to Turin.
The report claims that Torino director Davide Vagnati is increasingly confident a deal will be done with Doig already verbally agreeing to move across Serie A.
It is claimed that Josh Doig has also informed Verona of his intention to move via his agents, despite the fact he played just over 70 minutes in the weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan.
Rangers left-back hunt continues
The Josh Doig to Rangers transfer chatter comes amid claims the Italian want €6m (£5.2m) for the young Scottish left-back, a valuation which surely rules Rangers out of the running.
Rangers are also expected to be busy in the transfer market this January, with left-back an area of the squad of increasing concern.
This comes amid reports Verona are close to securing that deal for Ridvan Yilmaz, with the club’s transfer coffers boosted by the sale of Filippo Terracciano to AC Milan.

It’s certainly an interesting scenario with Rangers linked to a host of names in the position and as things stand, no breakthrough being made in the club’s pursuit of a new left-back.
Kai Wagner (Philadelphia Union), Gijs Smal (FC Twente), and Fredrik Oppegard (PSV Eindhoven) are the Rangers left-back links which have yet to be ruled out.
