Rangers face La Liga competition from Granada and Sevilla in the hunt for Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate.

The Gers were first linked with a move for the English-born Colombian international, 25, last week as Philippe Clement looks to bolster his first team squad.

However, initial excitement over a potential deal for Alzate, who is out of contract in the summer, was tempered by claims Philippe Clement wasn’t considering a move as things stand.

Now, the latest reports are suggesting that Rangers are interested in the midfielder, who is currently out on loan at Standard Liege, but that they’re not the only ones.

Rangers face Steven Alzate competition

According to a report by journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was writing for Football Insider, Rangers, Sevilla, and Granada are all interested in signing Steven Alzate this January.

With the player currently back at the AMEX receiving treatment on an injury, the report claims the midfielder is expected to return within the next 10 days.

As a result, Rangers are closely monitoring the player’s situation as they mull over a potential January move for the midfielder.

Sevilla and Granada could also offer the player the chance to play in La Liga and it’s a live situation as things stand and one to keep an eye on for supporters.

Ibrox transfer hunt continues

Steven Alzate is one of eleven players who’ve already been linked to Rangers in the transfer window as Philippe Clement looks to new signings.

The Belgian manager has already added Wolves attacker Fabio Silva on loan this January with more signings expected to follow in the coming days and weeks.

Rangers are however being decidedly tight-lipped about any incomings with barely a peep escaping the Ibrox scouting department this winter.

Rangers’ midfield has been besieged by injuries this season with Steven Alzate potentially set to come in and bolster the club’s options in the second half of the campaign.
